The Ghost Main View
The Ghost
The Ghost is a modified VCX Corellian Freighter first seen in Star Wars: Rebels and making a live-action debut in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The ship is the home base for the rebels on Lothal, captained by Hera Syndulla, and was given its name for being able to scramble its signature as it sneaks past Imperial ships. The Ghost has a secondary shuttle, The Phantom, which can detach from the main body of The Ghost for travel or to aid in battle. From rebel battles beginning during the beginning of the Empire to the Battle on Exegol, The Ghost became a symbol for the rebellion.
Animation of Views and Components
Components
The Ghost is mainly made up of its main hull, which includes a body for its cargo bay and its engines. The front and top cannons are made with a rotating joint so as to swivel around in battle. The cargo door rotates down to meet the ground so cargo can be loaded up onto the ship. The landing gear consists of three legs that extend down below the ship and slide up into the body during flight. The Phantom is a separate component that slides in and out of the back hutch of The Ghost, and from there, The Phantom has two wings that fold out and into the ship as it flies and lands, each wing made up of three rotating components. The Phantom is also equipped with a swiveling cannon at the top, as well as a dual cannon in the front.

Detailing
Making the overall form was difficult, but I approached it looking at main shapes that formed the body. Looking at the front and back of The Ghost, there is a lot of symmetry between shapes, lines, and angles. I started with making the main body, then the sides and wings, then moved on to other details like the wing details, engine thrusters, cargo bay, cannons, and more. Afterwards, I was able to project a sketch of the back of The Ghost to begin making The Phantom to fit into the back, and from there I modeled the wings and other details on The Phantom. Overall, I often used rectangular or circular patterns and mirrored details and components to other sides of the ship.

The Phantom
The Phantom detaches from the back of The Ghost, where its wings unfold in three joints per wing. The turret on top swivels around, and The Phantom also has a pair of cannons in the front. I appreciate the extra bit of meaning The Phantom brings to the Ghost, almost like a final piece to a puzzle.

I made The Ghost because I love Star Wars and wanted to make one of Star Wars’ ship designs in Fusion 360. I wanted to explore making manmade-like forms and shapes, but I also wanted to make it because I knew I would enjoy making something from my favorite franchise. I developed more skills in surface modeling as well as rendering and adding decals to the body. I also wanted to do more with components that were mechanical like when I made The Phantom a “component” to The Ghost with folding wings. Making this project was meaningful to me because I got to apply my new skills to something I love. I enjoyed making something I knew had a story and history behind it, even if it is from a TV show. I also enjoyed putting the work in to make this since it is important and meaningful to me.
